The city accepted the park management plan it charged the park advisory board to complete. Chairman Craig Bartoshuk presented the plan to the commissioners, who will review it and format/ edit it before submitting it to the South Florida Water
Management District (SFWMD). The City of LaBelle has leased the
site, on the north side of the Caloosahatchee River in Glades County, from SFWMD.

Growing Tall and Straight
Boy Scout Troop # 9 and their leaders came to the LaBelle Nature Park on Saturday, May 3, armed with wheelbarrows, rakes and shovels to mulch the trails leading to the park's largest oak tree. The Scouts were joined by volunteers representing Rotary, Kiwanis, Greater LaBelle Garden Club and Riverwatch.
Earth Week in the Park
Over 800 Hendry County 1st-5th Grade students participated in
educational activities April 22-25 at the Nature Park and Hendry
House. More kids and adults came on Saturday. Exhibitors included
UF-IFAS Extension/4-H, Division of Forestry, LaBelle Heritage Museum,
Florida Panther Refuge, ECHO food development, LaBelle Garden Club,
Sierra Club, and Florida Owls, Advanced Solar, Save It Now Glades,
FPL Wind Energy, and Hendry Dept. of Health. University students from
Intelligentsia International set up 5 exhibits showing Port LaBelle
Utility System drinking water wells treatment, Rotary International
clean water projects, Caloosahatchee Riverwatch, energy greenhouse
gas issues, Southern DataStream water quality research.

New Athletics Park Funding
Congressman Tim Mahononey visited LaBelle on December 1st to visit the site of a proposed youth athletics park. He spoke in support of Bush signing legislation that includes a grant to help make the park a reality, a bill Bush has threatened to veto. Mahoney said that if it is vetoed he will mount an override effort.
Supporters of putting in a nature park on 176 acres across the river are looking to form a coalition to help make their dream a reality. Ultimately, they hope to make it part of connecting environmental corridor with greenways and waterways.
Florida Native plants are required by some codes and are playing a greater role in our gardens and landscapes. On october 3,2007 you will be acquaint with some of the most popular native species and also introduced with less familar ones at 3406 Palm Beach Blvd. , Fort Myers, Florida 33916 from 07:30 am onwards.
A new LaBelle park in Glades County is under development on the north bank of the Caloosahatchee just east of Hwy 29. Plans include hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, and sites for picnicking.
Margaret England, one of LaBelle’s foremost environmentalists, is very excited about the prospect of creating a park there.
The city has other parks n Barron Park, The Nature Park on Fraser Ave., Sports Park off Cowboy Way and so on but, she says, “who says LaBelle can’t be the City of Parks?”.

Kiwanis One Day, Air Potato Hunt
On Easter weekend 2007, Margaret England organized the LaBelle
Kiwanis Club One Day, air potato hunt to remove the exotic vine tubers
that infest that park and whose shoots choke out native plants. Terry Sutton
prize winner for finding the smallest potato tuber holds the largest potato - the size of a softball found by Chelsea Lewis.
Kira and Andrew Newman won the prize for the most potatos found.

Four new Rotary Club benches have been placed along the trails in the Nature Park to enhance the enjoyment and convenience of the Park visitors.
Rotary Club of LaBelle will continue improve the LaBelle Nature Park by placing yet more benches and a security system in the near future.
Campaigning in LaBelle prior to election day, Tim Mahoney, the
Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress visited LaBelle along with
former Florida Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham. Before going to
the park, they shared pie and coffee with a crowd of locals in Flora
& Ella's Restaurant.
The LaBelle Nature Park's Coalition for Eco-Recreation works to preserve and enhance Hendry County's ecological recreation resources for the benefit and education of present and future generations. Watch this web page for regular updates of Coalition meeting minutes and schedule of events.
The community envisions a natural resources educational center next to the park, which would provide the schools of Hendry and Glades Counties with science education field trips, classrooms and labs.

Kiosk Plans
A kiosk will soon be built at the park entrance to provide visitors with park brochures and Nature Park information.
Intelligentsia International created a design for the kiosk.
